E-Seminar : Philosophy of Cinema

SEM107-3

(E-Seminar available in French)

Description

Study the philosophy of cinema through texts and films from various eras and countries: reflect on the ontology of the cinematic medium, the semiology of cinema, and the history of films from the birth of the seventh art to today. Understand how cinema influences us and explore current political issues related to the power of films (Media Power, Gender Studies, and Decolonial Studies). From Epstein to Tarkovsky, through Mambety, Campion, and Scorsese, understand how cinema renews philosophical thought from an aesthetic, political, and phenomenological perspective. Consider a potential theology of cinema to decipher images.
