14 march 2025
OFFICIAL STATEMENT - Domuni Universitas rejoices in the appointment of His Excellency Monsignor Armand Koné as Metropolitan Archbishop of Korhogo (Côte d'Ivoire) by His Holiness Pope Francis, announced on March 7, 2025, by the Apostolic Nunciature.
Mgr. Armand Koné, a student of Domuni Universitas, pursued theological studies within our institution. His academic journey reflects a profound intellectual and spiritual commitment in service of the Church and the dialogue between faith and reason.
Ordained a priest in 2008 for the Archdiocese of Korhogo, he has held various pastoral responsibilities, notably serving as Vicar General before undertaking a mission in the Diocese of Troyes (France). Since 2020, he has served as pastor of Notre-Dame des Victoires and, since 2022, has once again held the position of Vicar General in his home diocese.
The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Korhogo, located in northern Côte d'Ivoire, is one of the country’s four archdioceses and serves as the seat of the eponymous ecclesiastical province. Its history dates back to the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture of Korhogo in 1895, which was later integrated into the Apostolic Vicariate of Katiola in 1952. The Diocese of Korhogo was erected on October 15, 1971, before being elevated to the status of a metropolitan archdiocese on December 12, 1994, by Pope John Paul II.
Today, it comprises the suffragan dioceses of Katiola and Odienné. The archdiocese's seat is the Saint John the Baptist Cathedral in Korhogo. This ecclesiastical territory extends across the large regions of Poro and Bagoué, home to a predominantly Senufo population, a people with a rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
Domuni Universitas warmly congratulates Mgr. Armand Koné on the mission entrusted to him and assures him of its support and prayers as he embarks on his episcopal ministry.
The episcopal ordination of Mgr. Koné and his canonical installation will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, during the 4th week of Lent, in Korhogo. The Rector and Vice-Rector invite all members of the university community to join in thought and heart.
