Diving into Domuni-Universitas E-Seminars: Collaborative and Flexible Learning for Master’s Students
With the rise of distance learning, Domuni-Universitas is innovating by offering interactive E-Seminars. These online seminars, accessible to Master’s level students, provide a unique opportunity to expand knowledge by participating in collaborative exchanges guided by expert professors. As autumn approaches, many exciting webinars are scheduled. To better understand this concept, we spoke with Justine Pinto, educational coordinator at Domuni-Universitas.
Justine, what is an E-Seminar, and how does it differ from a traditional online course?
"E-Seminars are much more than simple online courses. They are collaborative learning spaces where about fifteen students gather around a teacher to work together on a specific topic. Each seminar is organized into several stages, usually three or four, spread over about two and a half months. Students explore ideas, analyze texts, and participate in structured debates, all with one goal: to deepen a subject while exchanging with their peers."
What role do these webinars play in the Master’s program at Domuni?
"E-Seminars are essential for our Master’s students. Each one is worth 6 ECTS credits, but it’s not just about the points! The main interest is allowing students to explore subjects they may not have had the chance to address before. Each webinar is led by an expert professor who pushes students to refine their reflections, confront their perspectives, and broaden their intellectual horizons. This format helps them develop their debate and critical analysis skills while learning to structure and defend their ideas."
Can you tell us more about the practical aspects of these seminars?
"Everything is done through our online learning platform, DoMoodle. It’s an asynchronous format, so students can log in and participate in discussions when it suits them. Each seminar is divided into two-week stages. The first week is dedicated to analyzing a text or topic, with a written contribution to be submitted at the end of the week. The second week is reserved for discussions, where students debate the work of their peers. It’s a very flexible system that allows students to balance their studies with their personal schedules while actively participating in collective reflection."
What are the must-attend e-seminars this autumn?
"We have several exciting seminars this season, with something for everyone! For example, Nicolas Tenaillon is offering an e-seminar on cinema philosophy, where students will explore the influence of images, the notion of ‘gaze,’ and even a theological reflection on cinema. A must for those who like to think beyond the screen!
Another highlight, Jorel François will lead a seminar on the myth of androgyny and gender studies. A very current topic, which will revisit the concepts of gender and sexuality from ancient myths to contemporary scientific approaches.
And for those interested in more philosophical and interdisciplinary questions, Maxime Allard will offer a seminar in English on Women, Justice, Recognition, and Religion, drawing on the work of Martha Nussbaum to explore the connection between justice, gender, and religion in modern societies."
Are there also theology seminars?
"Absolutely! Among the theology seminars, we have, for example, Apollinaire Kivyamunda offering an exploration of African theology, examining the relationship between African culture and Christianity, or Evelyne Maurice, who will offer a fascinating seminar on the liturgical year according to Karl Rahner, for those who wish to rediscover the spiritual depth of liturgical celebrations. And finally, for lovers of patristics, Wilson Vallery will address the question of the soul’s status in Saint Augustine, analyzing the evolution of his thought from philosophy to Christianity."
Any final words to encourage students to enroll?
"Our E-Seminars are truly an enriching experience! They allow students to delve into specialized topics while exchanging ideas with students from around the world. It’s an opportunity to learn how to defend your ideas and participate in stimulating discussions, all with great flexibility. And of course, they help you earn credits while deepening your knowledge. So don’t hesitate, come and explore these seminars this autumn!"
