Christianity is an historical religion. Jesus' life, death and resurrection are central to the Christian religion. There may however be conflicts between the pastoral and the historical points of view.
This diploma is concerned with Church History and the philosophies of the corresponding periods. Following this general introduction, the second section covers the beginning of the modern period, from the 16th to the 18th century. The third course in Church history is specifically concerned with the forms of life inspired by Christianity that were accepted, adapted and spread by Africans.
This course will provide an overview of the history of philosophy in the Latin West during the Millennium that stretches from the 6th century to the 15th century and offers an opportunity to look more closely at the key “lovers of Wisdom” of this period, Bonaventure, Aquinas, Aristotle, and amongst others John Duns Scotus.
