The Intellectual Heritage of the Dominicans

The Dominican Order, also known as the Order of Preachers, benefits from an eight-century university tradition in theological training, philosophical study, academic research, and social engagement. Founded by Saint Dominic in the early 13th century, this religious order plays a crucial role in intellectual and spiritual development.

Eight-Century University Tradition

The Dominicans have established numerous universities and study centers. Their network allows for a constant exchange of ideas, thus strengthening unity and diversity. The Dominican network has historically formed as a set of autonomous entities, interconnected through a common government and numerous exchanges. This democratic structure has led to a dense international network present worldwide.
