Dr. Tam Nguyen

Born and grown up in the North of Vietnam, Tam however moved to Saigon, the South, in 1990, to pursue his religious vocation as Dominican.  

 

At the Dominican House of Studies in Saigon, he completed his philosophical studies and a part of the theological program for priesthood.

 

In 1999, he was sent to complete the formation program at the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas, in Manila, Philippines where he obtained a Licentiate in Theology with a distinction of Magna Cum Laude in 2001. In this same year, he was ordained priest at Santo Domingo Church, Quezon City, Manila.

 

Tam arrived in Belgium by the end of the year 2001, where he had his further studies in Theology at the Faculty of Theology, Catholic University of Louvain (K.U Leuven). At KUL, he studied systematic theology and obtained a double degree: Master of Theology and Sacrae Theologiae Licentiatum, both with distinction of Magna Cum Laude in 2003.

 

From 2003, beside some pastoral works, Tam was interested and invested earnestly in Fundamental Theology, Theology of Religions, and Inter-religious Dialogue. On the other hand, he also studied different languages which are needed for his theological research as well as his pastoral works. Besides Vietnamese (his mother tongue), he can speak English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. He also has a basic knowledge of Dutch and Chinese.

 

In June 2013 he obtained his Doctorate in Theology (STD & PHD) at the University of Louvain-la-Neuf. His dissertation's title was: "Gerald O’Collins’ understanding of symbols, experience and divine revelation – an accommodation for a Christian approach to the world religions and interreligious dialogue in the line of Jacques Dupuis."

 

Since September 2013 he has joined the teaching group of the Dominican University Online (Domuni), at the same time continuing his pastoral mission in Brussels.
